About Me

Hi. My name is Ems, and I am an addict. I'm addicted to travel, hooked on crochet and obsessed with vegetables.

I'm on a quest as I travel to learn as much as possible about homesteading, small-scale farming and becoming self-sufficient. I'll be researching and reading, meeting interesting people and going to incredible places - and sharing my experiences and what I've learned along the way.

And how to fund not just one hard-core habbit, but three? I'll be crafting and crocheting my way through the winter, with the hope of selling my bounty for Christmas. I'll include any patterns or ideas that I've used or found online, but if you can't crochet (yet!) and would like some handmade winter woolies, or any other handcrafted gifts, I take commissions!

But why bother blogging about all this?

Firstly, to quote from 'On The Keeping Of Bees', "there is nothing like writing things down to clarify one's own thoughts." Perhaps writing a blog will help keep me focused, or at the very least help me remember where I've been and what I've been up to!

Secondly, I know I'm not alone in either my weird interests in composting toilets, or my desire to leave my little patch in a better state than I found it. But sometimes being a crackpot can seem a lonely life; I hope that this blog will find other oddballs, cranks and crazies, and that it will make them feel less singular.

Thirdly, it's no use finding out really interesting and important things if you just keep them to yourself. I want to share what I discover, the success (and mistakes) and I hope this blog will inspire you to make the changes you've been wanting to but putting off.

Life's too short to procrastinate - unless you're knitting!
